Why do not be shy to do plastic surgery

Plastic surgeon of the Klazko Clinic of Aesthetic Medicine Nodari Ioseliani tells us what patients most often want to change in themselves and how safe it is to have plastic surgery. Nodari answers the most common questions about plastic surgery and exposes modern myths about risks and complications.

Loving yourself is important. Accepting yourself as you are is important. But alas, it does not always work out.

In the era of bodypositive, when wearing size L and XL became normal and shameful (finally), people became easier to relate to their own and others' weaknesses (who generally decided that these were weaknesses?). But it also happens that a person is not ready and does not want to put up with small or large breasts or a hump on his nose. And then what to do? So far, they haven’t come up with anything better than plastic surgery - and there is nothing bad, embarrassing, or terrible about going to a specialist even for a consultation. If plastic surgery makes you happier and more self-confident, if it saves you from complexes, if your mental and physical condition improves, then why not?

Nodari Ioseliani, plastic surgeon at the Klazko Aesthetic Medicine Clinic:

- What patients usually want to change in themselves depends on their age. Until age 35, they are most often asked to change their breasts (before or after childbirth), nose, do abdominoplasty (for example, after childbirth, the stomach may not look the same as before, this worries women) and liposuction.

After 35 years, patients usually seek a facelift, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), mammoplasty and abdominoplasty. Russian doctors are rarely asked to install implants in the buttocks - this is popular in Brazil.

In plastic surgery, as, perhaps, everywhere, there is a fashion for naturalness. The first thing that clients say when they come to the consultation is: "I want everything to look natural." I no longer meet patients who ask for breasts of the fourth or fifth size.

Many girls, on the contrary, come to reduce breasts or lips (earlier, polymers were used to enlarge lips - surgery is required to remove them). Moreover, if a girl comes to me and asks me to increase my chest to the seventh size, I will refuse to do this. I understand that in a year she will bend in the spine and hernias will form.

The percentage of unsuccessful operations associated with the work of the surgeon practically does not change from year to year - this is 5-10%.

The percentage of unsuccessful operations associated with implants, suture material and drugs is drastically reduced. Progress is taking crazy steps: what the doctor uses today may already be outdated tomorrow. The specialist needs to constantly monitor and comply with such things.

"My implant didn’t take root", "I got an allergy to the implant" - these are rather fantastic stories from the Internet. If you ask in detail the girls who say that the implant did not take root and had to be replaced, it becomes clear that this was most likely a doctor’s mistake.

There are very few cases described in the literature when an implant has not really taken root or an allergy has developed. And in my entire practice I have met this literally a couple of times. Modern materials are not harmful to the body.

Oddly enough, one of the best and most proven ways to choose a doctor is the so-called word of mouth.

Ask your friends, friends of friends, acquaintances of acquaintances - and so you will surely find "your" doctor. Well, listen to yourself - a flair rarely fails.

Do not save on operations. Breast augmentation or rhinoplasty is not an emergency operation, not appendicitis. Plastic surgery can almost always wait.

Therefore, if there is no financial opportunity to perform the operation today, it is better to postpone it, and not look for profitable offers.

You should not focus only on the experience and professionalism of the surgeon. The successful outcome of the operation depends not only on him, but also on the anesthetist, nurse, nurse and other people working in the clinic. The surgeon can do a great operation, but if an inexperienced nurse arrives in the evening, pulls up the laundry a little, as she believes it should be, irreparable consequences may occur the next day. It is important to select correctly both the surgeon, and the anesthetist, and the clinic.

Each patient must undergo an examination plan to exclude possible complications from surgery or anesthesia. A person passes a blood test, urine, ECG, fluorography. This is the main thing. If there are chronic diseases, other tests and examinations by specialists are added.

If all the results are normal, the surgeon and the anesthetist can guarantee that everything will go well. Health is primary, beauty is secondary. A man comes to us healthy and alive - that is how he should leave.

If we find in the analyzes that we didn’t like, we refer to narrow specialists for repeated tests or treatment. The main thing is that we have time for this, I repeat, this is not an emergency operation.

There is a list of what you can’t do before the operation: smoke (for two months before and after the operation), drink alcohol, take some medications. But, in my opinion, all prohibitions should be real, so I do not forbid smoking for my patients: if a person can live without a cigarette for four months, he would have quit it a long time ago.

On the eve of the operation there should be a light supper, and the operation itself is carried out on an empty stomach.

Before the operation everyone is worried.

To be afraid is normal. Surgeons usually think when the patient at the first consultation says that he is ready to go under the knife right now. You can expect anything from such people. Nevertheless, we must not allow a person to lie down on the operating table all on his nerves and excited. Therefore, premedication is done before the operation (preliminary medical preparation of the patient for general anesthesia and surgical intervention.

- Ed. ) - and a few minutes after the injection with this person you can fly at least into space, he becomes absolutely calm. If you skip this step, the anesthetist will have to inject more painkillers. After sedation, the patient is brought to the operating room, a catheter is inserted, medicine is administered, the person falls asleep, and the surgeon starts to work.

“I heard everything”, “I felt pain, but could not do anything” - not a single patient can hear or feel anything.

Here the subconscious mind works: the person is very worried about the operation, then wakes up, and everything that he was afraid seems real to him. They often ask me: "What if I wake up during an operation?" I always answer that if you wake up during an operation, I myself will die of fear. This cannot be: an anesthetist monitors a person’s condition on the monitor every second.

Many people are afraid of anesthesia, but it is worth more to fear the surgeon than the anesthetist. In the field of anesthesia, everything has gone so far that the average experienced anesthesiologist can screw up much less often than a highly professional surgeon.

Everything is standardized and mechanized there, all the devices are harmless, something is very difficult to spoil. But of course, this does not mean that now you can even trust your life to an inexperienced specialist.

All drugs that are used for anesthesia, short-acting - they are quickly eliminated from the body. As soon as the surgeon has finished the work, the anesthetist stops giving the medicine. Consciousness and memory after surgery are returned after a maximum of 30 minutes.

How the recovery will proceed depends on the operation. Let's look at the process of rehabilitation after the installation of implants in the chest. In general, mammoplasty is considered the most painful operation, the rest are easier to carry.

After the operation, a person is in the clinic for 24 hours - this is mandatory.

On the first day, he does not feel anything - the medical staff does everything for him: feeds, gives painkillers on a schedule, leads to the toilet and back. When the patient returns home, pain will begin to bother him - but this is not such a pain that makes him crazy and which requires narcotic painkillers. The first three days, it is enough to take 3-5 tablets of conventional painkillers. On the fourth and fifth days - 1-2 tablets per day.

If the work is non-physical (the woman works only at the computer), you can return to it for 5-7 days after the operation.

Physically active girls who, for example, work as makeup artists, fitness trainers or hairdressers, need to recover longer - you can go to work only after 20 days.

For a month after the operation, you need to wear compression underwear, so it makes no sense to go to the sea. Just travel without physical activity is allowed on the tenth day - after the last dressing. It is recommended to start doing fitness in a month, but this should be the minimum load, for example, riding a stationary bike or swimming. Three months after the operation, you can’t visit the solarium, bathhouse, sauna and topless sunbathing.

There are cases when plastic surgery needs to be done to improve health, and not change externally. Such indications include: large breasts - the spine suffers because of it, the back hurts, hernias form; a curved nasal septum - a person cannot breathe fully, the brain is poorly saturated with oxygen; tibial dystrophy - this happens after childhood diseases, cruroplasty will help fix this.

The psychological state of a person is important. If he is dissatisfied with himself, if he is not comfortable with his nose, lips, chest, stomach, he will be in a permanent state of stress.

And this has a bad effect on physical health. Plastic surgery will help him become more confident in himself, will help get rid of complexes and, possibly, change something in his life for the better.

Contraindications include: intolerance to anesthesia, blood problems (poor coagulation), diabetes mellitus, multiple organ failure, mastopathy, oncology and other serious diseases.

It is very rare when a person should not have plastic surgery at all. Most often, it is simply delayed for some time until the person undergoes treatment.
