Run and collect garbage: how ploging comes to Russia

How can running and environmental care be combined? Anya Galcheva found out who and how in Russia is engaged in plogging.

Logging is a mix of two current trends: a healthy lifestyle and environmental awareness. The movement originated in Sweden. The name comes from the English word jogging (jogging) and the Swedish 16locka u3044 (pick up). The point is to collect debris along the way while jogging.

What is suitable for recycling (plastic and glass bottles, aluminum cans) is best then recycled - so less garbage will go to landfills. That which cannot be processed will at least lie on the landfill, and not on the forest edge.

In Russia, plogging is not so common. According to the hashtag, # plogging in the Russian segment of the Instagram is available (at the time of writing) about 1,700 publications. Moreover, part of the publications was made by runners from Ukraine, from Belarus and Kazakhstan.

The #plogging hashtag shows about 59,000 posts. Runners from around the world brag about the results of their runs: lay out routes and photos of “booty” - bags filled with bottles, plastic glasses and other garbage. Sharing social media jogging information is part of the ploging philosophy. So more people will be able to learn about this movement. If they don’t start running around with bags, they’ll probably at least stop throwing garbage in the wrong places.

In Russia, only a few enthusiasts are engaged in plogging so far . Some of them at first did not even suspect that junk collection has a separate name.

Logging, like any cleaning, helps get rid of trash. But, alas, this will not solve the global garbage problem, environmentalists remind.
