Run 21.1 km in the rain: how did the Luzhniki half marathon go

On August 18, the annual Luzhniki half-marathon was held in Moscow. Participants ran 21.1 km along the Luzhnetskaya, Frunzenskaya, Prechistenskaya, Kremlin, Raushskaya and Kosmodamianskaya embankments past the Crimean bridge, St. Basil’s Cathedral, Cathedral of Christ the Savior and the Kremlin.

Denis Valitov was the first at a distance of 21.

1 km - 1:06:45. The second with a result of 1:07:31 came Dmitry Safronov. The third was Nikolai Chavkin - 1:08:16. The first among the girls ran Olga Spirina - 1:20:21. The second with the result 1:20:37 finished Alexandra Tsoh.

The third place was taken by Daria Pavlova - 1:21:22.

As part of the half-marathon, traditional races of athletes on handbikes and racing strollers took place. They were attended by 26 athletes.

The Luzhniki half marathon is the second in Russia in the number of participants. This year there were more than five thousand people at a distance.

The youngest participant in the race is 18 years old, the oldest is 84 years old. Usually during the summer half-marathon of the “Running Community” in Moscow it’s hot, but on August 18 the weather was cool and it was raining.

The next race - the Absolute Moscow Marathon - will be held on September 22. The marathon promises to break records in the number of participants.
