Our selection: Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 Shield Running Shoes

There are not so many sneakers in which you can run in the rain and slush, but the editor of The Challenger and part-time fast marathon runner Lena Kalashnikova knows that sometimes one reliable pair is enough. The good and the bad sneakers for running in bad weather Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 Shield - read her report.

- I’m a candidate for master of sports in marathon, I run a lot, sometimes more than 500 km per month, and I'm a pretty spoiled person - I have a lot of different pairs of sneakers. But if everything is easy and clear with summer shoes, then finding the right pair for an unpredictable winter is always a daunting task. What is the difference between winter and summer in terms of running:

  • is colder in winter, so sneakers are needed insulated;
  • if the temperature is positive, there is a risk of getting your feet wet and freezing, so the shoes should be waterproof, as much as possible;
  • snow and porridge from the reagents require two shoes at once qualities: the sole, which will not slip , and the color, which does not turn into dirty ;
  • in the winter most of the day is dark, therefore sneakers should have reflective elements - so that you are noticeable on the dist ntsii (including motorists).

My regular route includes the road to the park, which is cleared of snow, and tracks in the park itself, where this is much worse. In positive weather, I often step in puddles, in negative weather I either have to drown in the snow or slide on ice. Here I tested the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 Shiled sneakers.

As befits sneakers for running through puddles and mud , my Air Zoom Pegasus 36 Shiled is black, from laces to the sole. There are other options in the Nike assortment - with a white sole, as well as pink or purple accents on top, but something tells me that these colors are not for our winter.

There are reflective elements on all sides of the sneaker: on the outer side - in the form of a huge Swoosh badge, on the top - on the lacing, on the back and on the nose - striped inserts. Nike has made sure that the runner is visible from all directions. The sole - all in diamonds - should provide traction on wet surfaces.

The Pegasus model has a rather narrow nose - on the one hand, it’s convenient: if the foot is narrow, you don’t have to tighten your laces to get a perfect fit. On the other hand, those who have a wide foot will have to try on a larger size or look for another model.

You won’t put a warm sock under such a shoe, and you don’t need it - the Pegasus Shield is really warm on its own.

The back of the sneaker is tight, securely fixes the foot. He also has an elongated triangular protrusion, with the help of which it is convenient to pull the sneaker on the leg without untying the laces.

Pegasus 36 Shield does not Gore-Tex membranes, which are often inserted into winter and trail sneakers to protect against water, but there is a water-repellent coating around the perimeter of the shoe - and a Shied mesh at the top. The grid will not protect from water if you step into a deep puddle, but it can cope with the drops from the rain.

Unlike Gore-Tex, the mesh provides better ventilation and allows the foot to breathe.

Female model in size 38, 5 weighs 230 grams, men's - 280, this is quite the usual weight for summer sneakers. Warm sneakers are usually a bit heavier, so Nike Pegasus 36 Shiled can be considered quite lightweight in this setting.

As for the cushioning, the Air Zoom cushions are a reliable and proven technology, loved by many. The sole of the Pegasus 36 Shield is soft and resilient at the same time as in other versions of Pegasus.

I ran back to the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 Shield for a little over two weeks, in a total of about 100 kilometers, in two modes - at a quiet pace (6 min / km) and in developing (4:30 min / km). Weather conditions during this period changed - there were rains and slush, now snow fell on the frosty paths of the park. All of the claimed technologies worked successfully - in situations where other sneakers would get wet through, the Shield stays dry. In general, they are designed to run on wet surfaces, but they also hold well on slippery tracks that did not have time to sprinkle with reagents. Although for running on ice and snow, you still need to look for models with a more tenacious sole.

All the Nike shoes I had were durable - the “run” of one pair could reach 1200 km, but there were no visible damages. I think the Pegasus 36 Shield will not be an exception.

Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 Shield - an insulated version of popular sneakers, suitable for slushy and warm winters, spring and autumn. They protect against moisture, and at the same time they are not as hot as in winter shoes. Good cushioning, lots of reflective elements.

Like those who have a narrow foot.
