A marathon is a great event in the life of every runner. Going for the first time on a run, you may not even assume that once you run 42.2 kilometers. But running is addictive - and now you are preparing, perhaps for the longest distance in your life. Together with ASICS Frontrunner runners, we talk about four marathons in stunning cities: Tokyo, Frankfurt, Paris and Moscow.
You can also run one of them (but more on that later).
The marathon in Tokyo is the largest race in Asia. He is one of the six major world marathons of the World Marathon Majors along with a marathon in Boston, London, Berlin, New York and Chicago. From 1981 to 2007, women's and men's starts in Tokyo were held separately.
The marathon starts near the Tokyo City Hall.
The trail runs past Tokyo Dome Stadium, train station, Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo Skytree and other city attractions. The Tokyo Marathon has IAAF Gold Label status. Only fifty-six races in the world have the “golden status”, including all the “majors”. This status means a high level of organization and medical care for the marathon, guarantees the exact length of the route - here it is exactly 42,195 meters, - doping control of elite runners, wide coverage in the press.
On March 3, 2019, 38 thousand people took part in the Tokyo marathon, of which only 500 runners conquered ten kilometers.
For comparison: at the Moscow marathon, out of 30 thousand participants, only 20 thousand run the marathon, the rest go to the start of the “tens”.
The marathon in Frankfurt is the third of the fastest marathons in the world (Wilson Kipsang in 2011 won first place with a result of 2 hours 3 minutes 42 seconds, this is the third winning result among all marathons in the world) and second largest in Germany.
On the eve of the race, after receiving the numbers of all runners, there will be a large sports exhibition where you can buy equipment, food, gadgets and chat with experts. Here you can also stick teipes, special supporting tapes on body parts - they will be useful to those who have recently been rehabilitated after an injury. The marathon distance runs through the whole of Frankfurt and even goes to the suburbs.
The slogan of the marathon is Run the skyline: runners observe city landscapes with skyscrapers and road junctions throughout the distance. Along the track of the marathon, music groups and DJs play rock, blues and samba. More than half a million spectators come out to support the runners - townspeople and tourists. Marathon runners will finish inside the large Festhalle concert stadium on the red carpet. Each runner is a winner, regardless of how long he completed the marathon.
On the twenty-seventh of October 2019, the Frankfurt Marathon will be held for the thirty-eighth time. In 2018, 27 thousand runners took to the start.
The first marathon in Paris was held in 1896. The Paris Marathon is the most numerous race in Europe. This year, on April 14, more than 55 thousand people went to the start.
Usually, on the eve of the marathon, the running communities and teams of Paris conduct yoga and other activities in the parks. All marathon participants receive an invitation to breakfast run - an easy run from Saturday morning.
The Paris marathon is one of the most picturesque city races in the world. It starts on the Champs Elysees, passes by the Louvre Museum, Place de la Bastille, through the Vincennes forest. Opposite the Eiffel Tower is a large food point.
The route continues along the Seine, through the Bois de Boulogne, marathon runners finish near the Arc de Triomphe. On the run, you can see all the sights of the city from unusual angles - the roads are blocked especially for marathon runners.
In Paris, in some places, instead of asphalt, pavers still lie, so you have to run on uneven stones. A third of the distance of the marathon is laid in the parks, a shadow from the trees protects from the sun. Along the entire distance, Parisians and tourists support the runners - this helps the marathon runners not to give up and continue to run.
The Moscow marathon is the main and largest race in Russia. In 2013, the Moscow Marathon replaced the Moscow International Peace Marathon, which has been held in the capital since 1981. Six thousand people participated in the first Moscow marathon, runners finished inside the Luzhniki stadium on treadmills. Later, the start and finish were moved to the street - to the territory of Luzhniki. On September 23, 2018, 30 thousand runners from 92 countries of the world took to the start.
Moscow marathon is a member of the Association of International Marathons and Races (AIMS). Since 2013, she certifies both distances of the Moscow race. This means that the track is measured and marked (blue line on the asphalt). Following it, you will run exactly ten kilometers or exactly 42,195 meters.
Such as on the day of the marathon, Moscow happens only once a year.
From seven in the morning there are only runners in the subway. Someone is already in uniform and with a number, someone is taking equipment with him. The holiday begins on the way to the Luzhniki Stadium and lasts all day.
The route of the marathon runs along the embankments of the Moscow River, past the Moscow City skyscrapers, along Sadovoy and Boulevard rings, across Krymsky Bridge, along Tverskaya Street and Theater Passage, under the walls of the Kremlin. Every year, more and more fans take to the streets to support the runners.
Marathon runners are encouraged by funny and touching posters, rattles and even the sounds of musical instruments. On the day of the marathon, the energy of moving towards a dream and overcoming oneself, with which Moscow is filled, makes it clear that each of us can do everything.
