The fifth ceremony of awarding the Merit Award for Sailing "Yachtsman of the Year of St. Petersburg" was held on December 22. This time it was dedicated to the main anniversary of 2018 - the centenary of the founding of the world's first Nevsky Fleet yacht club.
The winners in twelve nominations were determined by the jury, which included representatives of the committee on physical education and sports, sailing federations of Russia and St. Petersburg, commanders of yacht clubs and heads of children's schools.
Boris Khryashchev became the best yachtsman , captain of two polar expeditions to the Novaya Zemlya and Franz Josef Land archipelagos. Yelena Kalinina, one of the leaders in world kiteboarding, was recognized as the yachtsman of the year: this season she won silver medals at the World and European Championships and gold at the World Cup stage.
In the category "Best long-distance sports trip" there are two winners at once: Daniil Gavrilov (his team covered more than 25,000 miles from St.
Petersburg to Western Greenland and back) and the yacht "Anna" ( took second place in its class in the transatlantic race Atlantic Rally of Cruisers).
Another traditional nomination is “Photo of the Year”. This year, the jury noted the picture of Anton Makhanov, which depicts the crew of the yacht "Lena".
