How was the half marathon on one of the most beautiful lakes in the world

The author of the Challenger, Julia Shirochkina, after seven weeks of training, ran her first half marathon on Lake Garda, Italy. It was not easy, but not at all as scary as it seemed. All experiences and emotions are in this material.

- Run 21 kilometers - in the summer it seemed like space. Now there is full confidence that such a distance is subject to everyone.

It is only necessary to properly prepare and approach the race in good shape. And maybe a little better than I had.

If you unwind a few weeks from the day of the half marathon, I’ll say that everything went according to plan. I attended training sessions

, studied at home and saw my progress. But for the last week and a half of seven, I went on a business trip.

I understood that I won’t be able to train in the same volume, but in good faith I took sneakers and a desire to run with me. Then the case intervened. Either I twisted my leg, or pulled the ankle muscle - as a result I could not step on my leg. Pain. I didn’t even want to think how in a week I would run a distance that I had never overcome in principle, and indeed, could I run if I couldn’t walk? And here I took for myself, perhaps, the most correct and wise decision - I simply stopped thinking about it.

True, with this, and train, but closer to the half-marathon, and so it was necessary to reduce the load, so I turned on the mode of "accumulating strength for the race."

Day of departure to Verona. Two days before the start. Thanks to a set of measures (I omit all these details here), the leg more or less returned to its previous state.

I walked on it boldly, as I boldly looked at the upcoming 21 km. I already decided for myself that I was flying to Italy not just as a tourist, but as a participant in one of the cool half marathons. Probably about 200 people from all over the country went to the plane of the runners and the next few days, surrounded by like-minded people - from the running school to Garda. On the eve of the race, the coaches held a small warm-up, everything was easy and fun. And very beautiful.

Locals joke that on Garda there are two types of weather: good and romantic (good and romantic). We got just the same second. The fog enveloping the lake and mountains gave even some mysticism to this place.

Probably The weather is such for an amateur, but on the day of launch, similar weather conditions definitely took everyone with enthusiasm. 15-17 degrees and sometimes light rain - just perfect for running (at least for me). When I received the starting number - 2266 (I still think that he is very beautiful), I posted his photo on Instagram. And I myself did not expect that I would react to the words of support from friends. A surge of strength and endorphins.

Perhaps then I was worried a little more than I could admit to myself, and the encouragement came in handy.

On the start day in the morning, there was a slight jitters. Thoughts began to creep in if I will see the finish line today. She was most afraid of losing the race because it was not known how the body would behave in the second half of the race. For myself, I decided that I want to run out of 2:30.

Not very ambitious, but it sounded real in my head. Although the trainers warned: "Do not set yourself any time, this is your first half marathon, enjoy it, think about the time already in the next races, relying on your result."

Started at a quiet pace to save energy for the second half. Still, to run in such a beautiful place is a pleasure. Over the course of the species, the views changed constantly: Italian buildings, vineyards, mountains and a stormy mountain river, and finally, an immense lake.

So the first 10 kilometers were even unusually easy for me, I ran them around 1:07, and this was my top ten results for all time. But as if to the eleventh kilometer they turned me off. I physically felt the strength in my legs run out. And there’s still half the distance ahead! At this moment, I ate one of the two energy gels that I took with me. After a couple of kilometers he acted, I felt good again.

In training, I ran a maximum of 14 kilometers, what will happen after - remained a mystery. But I remember how I overcame the marks of 16 and 17 kilometers, and was seemingly hearty. It was at this interval of the road that a mountain river appeared nearby - I ran meditatively, just looked at the stormy water! And what I certainly didn’t expect from myself - feeling strength, I decided to accelerate at the seventeenth kilometer. And there would generally be a thrill if I could keep this speed to the finish line.

But already at the eighteenth kilometer after the encouraging words of the Italian volunteer, they say, 3 kilometers of everything was left, I was turned off again, and already completely (the second gel, eaten at about 16 kilometers, did not help either). But it was already at the end of the track that led to the lake, and, despite my speed as a weaving turtle, I did not suffer when it all ended. Thoughts were the opposite: it’s a shame that in a couple of kilometers everything will end. I tried hard to absorb this atmosphere and sensations, I smiled to the photographers in full mouth - in my imagination in the pictures I should have looked at least graceful, but in reality most of the photos, in principle, are not really worth showing to people. The finish line is spread arms and a feeling of incredible happiness.

I was able, I overcame some kind of internal framework. Time is more than modest - 2:27:10. But emotions after the finish line are definitely impossible to measure with anything.
