Fitness with a dog: 3 ways to train

Problem finding a training partner? Try to bring a dog with you - such a companion will never be lazy and miss training because of stress and problems at work.

The simplest and most accessible type of activity. We went outside, walked for half an hour - and ran. The dog must be given time to relieve the need, otherwise the pet may have bowel problems. Once you are convinced that your partner is ready, start a run.

Running together does not require special equipment. The owner - sportswear for the weather, the dog - a soft collar and a short leash. If you are planning to train in a park or in a country, you can do it without a leash, but on condition that your friend is well trained.

In warm weather, you should take water with you.

Hang the bag on your belt - you can put a bottle of liquid and a snack there. Try to start the training at a calm pace: the first kilometer the dog will run faster than necessary. If you set the desired speed from the very beginning, the dog twitches a little, and then it enters the rhythm with you.

Dogs, like people, are better off running on the ground, rather than on asphalt. Therefore, for training, give preference to parks, rather than city blocks.

Hardy and healthy. All hunting and herding dogs will happily share a long training session with the owner. But do not overload the puppies with serious races of up to a year and older dogs, no matter what breed they are.

Small, heavy, short-legged and, as a rule, fighting dogs are not the best partners for running. Bulldogs, for example, a long run is contraindicated.

  • and the owner and the dog will benefit from running;
  • joint activity brings together. After a few runs, you will notice that the pet is looking forward to the next training and is listening better;
  • the dog will be able to splash out energy. If the dog constantly destroys everything in the house, perhaps running will solve this problem - the pet will cease to be too active and leave your favorite slippers and chair legs alone.
  • if u dogs have problems with discipline, a joint run will turn into a real hell: jerking a leash, too fast a pace, changing direction at the request of the dog;
  • this type of activity will not work in hot weather: thermoregulation is worse in dogs.

Agility - a competition where the owner guides the dog through an obstacle course. Everything is a bit more complicated here: you need a special platform with objects. This type of activity will definitely improve the dog’s discipline - it must be trained to overcome the obstacle course.

To pass the obstacle course both the person and the dog need to learn how to pass each object separately.

The owner does not need to jump over the barriers and squeeze into the rings himself, but he will have to accompany the pet with a treat in his hand. If you do this at a brisk pace, then you yourself will not notice how dog training techniques turn into good cardio.

Start by learning the basic commands. Practice endurance, pet obedience. If you are a completely inexperienced trainer, you should contact a dog handler.

Hardy, quick, quick-witted, obedient. The pet should be quite flexible and slender. Difficulties can arise with small dogs: it is more difficult for them to choose a suitable site.

  • agility develops coordination and reaction in both the owner and the dog;
  • thanks to the lessons, you can hone your cynological skills and obedience to the dog;
  • other dog breeders are usually present at the site - an affinity company is provided.

  • for classes need a special platform;
  • will not suit inexperienced dog breeders - you may need the help of a dog handler;
  • is not suitable for aggressive dogs.

If you love and know how to ski , and your dog likes to pull the leash, then we have found a great activity for you. Attach the leash to the belt and let the dog pull it. If your dog is of a northern breed (husky, husky, malamute), perhaps it will have an ancient instinct: this breed has long been used in dog teams. Try to give your pet free rein - maybe your average ski speed will increase dramatically.

To begin with, it is worth accustoming the dog to the harness (a wide strap covering the chest and part of the back and replacing the collar) on ordinary walks. At the end of the leash you can tie the tire - so the dog will get used to the heaviness from behind. Then ask a friend of the skier to catch on the back of the dog, and call her to yourself. After some time, when the dog learns to move and stop at the command, you can fasten it to yourself.

Start with short distances - 200-300 meters. A sharp and unusual load can injure the spine and harm the heart. Before starting, you should definitely check if there is an ice crust on the snow - otherwise the dog will injure its paws.

If you get a taste and your workouts become regular, you will have to spend money on special equipment: a belt for a skier, a leash-pull, a special harness.

Hardy and well tolerating cold.

Ideally a sled dog. But German shepherds, retriever, collies, too, with pleasure "ride" their owners.
