Noos8here Technologies analysts analyzed more than 250 million messages for 2016-2019. For research, the company used the archive of the Brand Analytics system, which has a large social media data platform in Russian and other languages of the CIS countries.
The most popular emoji was fire ( 🔥 ): Russians used it almost three million times. In second place in terms of popularity was the red heart ( ❤️, 2.8 million times).
The top 3 ends with a smiley crying from laughter ( 😂 , 1.9 million times).
In total, every fourth message of Russians in social networks contains emojis, experts calculated. Moreover, women use emoji on average one and a half times more often than men. The most commonly used emoji are Instagram users (34%) and VKontakte (16%).
Followed by users of Twitter (13%), Facebook (11%), YouTube (10%), Odnoklassniki (10%) and other social networks (6%).
In general, Russians became more interested in emoji. In April 2016, the proportion of emoji-only messages was 5%. In 2019, the proportion of such messages exceeded 25%.
