9 health problems that oral contraceptives can help get rid of

We have repeatedly told you about the reliability of oral contraceptives, but now we decided to make a list of unpleasant and painful conditions with which they help to cope with the Smart Contraception * educational project. Tatyana Kaznacheeva, Ph.D. , obstetrician-gynecologist, again helps us with this.

- Decrease in body weight (and not increase, as is commonly thought) when taking oral contraceptives can occur due to the removal of excess fluid from the body, relief of symptoms of premenstrual tension and decreased appetite amid a good mood (no need to "jam" stress).

Oral contraceptives can reduce the level of active androgens in the blood and increase the synthesis of a special protein in the liver - it binds the male sex hormones of the blood and makes them inactive, because of which the sebaceous glands of the skin secrete less sebum. As a result, there is a lack of new rashes of acne. Skin and hair become less oily. The severity of this effect depends on how long a woman takes contraceptives - the longer, the “cleaner” the skin. This applies to oral contraceptives with antiandrogenic properties.

Heavy periods are dangerous that they can lead to the development of anemia and a decrease in the concentration of hemoglobin (a protein that provides cells with oxygen). Feeling unwell, drowsiness, headaches, dizziness, hair loss, brittle nails, poor tolerance of stuffiness, constant feeling of cold, tingling in the extremities and leg cramps - this is not a complete list of symptoms that are typical for such conditions.

Reducing menstrual blood loss is an important step in the treatment of anemia, and taking oral contraceptives for a long time can help.

Menstrual-dependent headaches are directly related to the fluctuation of sex hormones .

Taking oral contraceptives blocks the ovarian-menstrual cycle, making the concentration of sex hormones constant throughout the entire time. That is, the trigger of a migraine attack - a sharp drop in hormone levels - is absent.

At the first appointment, the gynecologist she will ask the patient if she has ever taken oral contraceptives - this will allow the doctor to assess the individual risk of developing ovarian cancer. For example, in women who have used oral contraceptives for at least one year, it is significantly lower.

Irregular menstruation, especially in combination with overweight, are the most important risk factors for endometrial cancer.

This is the effect for which many women have been ready for years use oral contraceptives. By the way, adolescents suffering from painful menstruation feel so good when taking contraceptives that they take them more disciplined than young women who use them only to prevent pregnancy.
