7 reasons to go on a Ducan diet

"Challenger" has collected all the main facts about the famous protein diet, thanks to which Penelope Cruz, Gisele Bundchen and another 12 million people around the world forever parted with extra pounds.

In 1975, a novice therapist Pierre Ducane faced an obesity in one of his patients for the first time in an ordinary Paris hospital. He asked the doctor to recommend some kind of diet, but with one prerequisite - do not exclude meat from his diet. Ducan thought and after a while offered him a completely new approach to nutrition, which brought an amazing result: in five days the patient managed to lose five kilograms. This inspired not only the patient, but also Pierre Ducane himself: the following years (and this is neither more nor less than 30 years) he spent on studying the eating habits of patients and systematically, step by step, developed his own weight loss technique.

The result of these studies was the book "I Can't Lose Weight", published in 2000. To date, it has spread around the world with a circulation of more than 10 million copies and has made the Ducan diet one of the most popular.

The essence of the Dukan diet - the use of foods with high protein content. Why protein? It's simple - the body spends much more energy and calories on its digestion (30% of the intake) than on fats (12%) and carbohydrates (7%). That is, out of 100 calories received with protein, the body will have to spend 30 on the digestion, absorption, transportation and assimilation of nutrients.

And the calories themselves are lower in protein (4 kcal per 1 g) than in fats and carbohydrates (9 kcal per 1 g).

  1. Attack.
    The most strict part of the diet, during which you can eat 72 permitted foods with a high protein content (and a minimum of fats and carbohydrates). The duration of this phase varies depending on the number of kilograms that a person wants to get rid of: less than 10 kg - 3 days, up to 20 kg - 3-5 days, from 20 to 30 kg - 5-7 days, over 30 kg - 7-10 days. During this time, you can lose up to 4 kg.

  2. Alternation ("Cruise").
    The main stage of the Dukan diet. There is an alternation of pure protein days and protein-vegetable days (28 vegetables are added to 72 protein products). Days can be alternated 1/1, 3/3 or 5/5 (if the excess weight was more than 10 kg, then only the last option is applied). All 100 permitted products can be prepared in any way (the main thing is without oil), consumed with each other and not limit yourself in serving sizes.

    This step continues until the desired result is achieved. As a rule, for each week of this phase a person loses up to 1 kg.

  3. Consolidation.
    The stage, which is also called “Fastening”, is necessary for the body to get used to the new nutrition system. And although the desired result has already been achieved, without this phase, lost kilograms can quickly return.

    The list of allowed foods is expanding again: you can eat 2 slices of whole grain bread, 40 grams of cheese or a serving of fruit per day. Starchy foods are also returned (1 serving per week) and a “festive meal” is allowed every 7 days (breakfast, lunch or dinner, during which you can eat whatever you want). But at the same time there remains one purely protein day - “protein Thursday”. The duration of this phase depends on the number of kilograms discarded in the first two parts of the diet: 10 days per kilogram. That is, if in the first two stages it was possible to get rid of 20 kilograms, then Consolidation should last 200 days.

  4. Stabilization.
    Here, a person gradually returns to his usual way of life. But it is better to continue to adhere to the diet of the previous stage. To save the result for many years, several simple rules will need to be followed: the “protein Thursday” remains, you need to abandon the elevator and eat 3 tablespoons of oat bran every day.
