Modern doctors, unlike medieval colleagues, do not associate changes in people's well-being with the weather, because they still have not revealed a general pattern. Someone worse in winter, someone from the sun. But some chronic diseases worsen in the spring. The therapist Dmitry Solovyov spoke about them.
Why escalates. In the spring, plants begin to turn green and bloom. It pleases everyone except allergy sufferers. Since mid-April, plant pollen has been in the air. For people suffering from hay fever (that's the name of the disease), April and May often become months of a runny nose, dry coughing and eye irritation.
How to prevent. If allergy symptoms bother you every spring, be sure to consult an allergist. It will help to identify which plant you are allergic to (usually there are even a few), and will give recommendations on how to avoid exacerbations.
Most hay fever is mild, and it’s enough to take an allergy medication (antihistamine) during flowering to relieve symptoms. Some allergy sufferers take a special vacation for a time when their “offending plant” blooms, and leave for a couple of weeks where there is no allergen.

Why escalates. Allergy is also the basis of this disease. Of course, the onset of spring does not in itself cause asthma, it is a chronic disease with complex causes, but it is in the spring that many asthmatics feel worse.
The first reason is an increase in air pollution.
Firstly, everywhere there is pollen, and secondly, in the spring in the cities the air is dirty and dusty. Deciduous trees were in hibernation in the fall, and all this time exhaust fumes and dust accumulated in the air. Environmentalists found that in late March - early April, their concentration is highest, and air is cleared only by summer. The second reason is humidity. In the spring it rains, and the air has not yet warmed up.
Wet and humid weather also contributes to the deterioration of the well-being of patients with asthma, especially if they catch a cold.
How to prevent. Follow the doctor's recommendations and constantly use medications for maintenance therapy (usually these are inhalation cans). Every patient with asthma (except for the mildest forms) should receive treatment regularly, even if he feels well. The meaning of the treatment in this case is that the well-being does not worsen.

Why are exacerbated. Spring weather is deceptive: it is warm during the day, and cold in the morning and evening, it is easy to cool off. With a decrease in immunity, this can turn into a cold. There are usually enough coughing and sneezing people around who are ready to share their germs with you.
Against the background of moist and moist air, a cold can develop into prolonged bronchitis, sinusitis, or even pneumonia.
How to prevent. The methods of protection against colds in spring are the same as at any other time of the year. Get enough sleep, avoid stress, stay away from sick people or wear a mask when meeting them, eat more vegetables and fruits, dress according to the weather and wash your hands more often. If you feel that you are sick, it is better to stay at home, drink warm tea and broth and lie down for several days.
In the event of a further deterioration in well-being or a very high temperature (more than 39 degrees), you should call a doctor.

Why are exacerbated. Sunburns are usually considered a summer problem, but in vain. In central Russia, the May sun can be very insidious: against the background of low temperature and wind it does not bake, like in summer, but the strength of the sun's rays on a clear day is not inferior to their strength in early August and can easily lead to burns from the sun.
People who have the so-called allergy to the sun (the correct name is polymorphic photodermatosis) may also encounter skin rashes in the spring.
How to prevent. If your skin is not friendly with the sun and you easily burn, then a sun protection product should be used already from the May holidays. Do not forget about the need to wear a hat at sunny noon.
Why are exacerbated. Spring is traditionally considered the time when the human psyche becomes fragile. The reason may be the banal fatigue that has accumulated over a long winter.
Scientists believe that there are seasonally dependent forms of depression.
The severity of problems can be different: some people feel a decrease in mood and drowsiness, while others may face serious problems requiring treatment by a doctor.
Of course, the onset of spring alone cannot lead to depression or psychosis, but it has been observed that some existing mental illnesses are more severe in spring.
How to prevent. Regardless of whether you have previously encountered mental problems or not, spring is the right time to try to be calmer and happier (and not to remake the “tails” left from winter before the summer vacation). If you are already receiving treatment (for example, taking antidepressants), ask your doctor if you should adjust the treatment for the spring.
